A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
