Recreational competitors are being offered the chance to earn a seven-figure prize when they take on tennis' top professionals - headed by top-ranked the Spanish champion - in a single-point showdown before January's Australian Open

Event planners of the Australian Open have unveiled the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will match a dozen non-professionals against top-ranked players in a elimination competition at the tournament grounds

The Unique Competition Operates

Players will play 'the decision-making game' to establish who gets to serve or return, and the competitor securing the point will progress to the following stage

The victor of the event will receive approximately half a million pounds

By comparison, players who made it to the penultimate round of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

The American Grand Slam hosted a restructured, standalone mixed doubles tournament in August which prompted top singles players to compete, with the champions receiving $1m

The year's first major held its first-ever One Point Slam in the current season, but the total purse was sixty thousand Australian dollars and it generated little publicity

One top competitor was the single high-ranked athlete involved, and his campaign finished when he sent the single service opportunity allowed into the net in his penultimate round

Competition Details

Officials have not detailed exactly how the event will work, but it is anticipated to emulate a comparable structure to this year's edition

The elite players will be permitted to have a single serve and the non-professionals two times - as is the norm in traditional tennis

While it is uncertain how the draw will work, there will be multiple elimination stages and the location will be the primary court rather than the alternative court

The final stages will be held in a night session instead of early afternoon

Entry Information

Any Australians - or foreign participants who have signed up with Tennis Australia - can participate in 'One Point Slam' tournaments at their neighborhood facilities

The winners of the community events will then go into a selection process, with a single non-professional from every geographic division chosen to compete in the 'championship round' in a nighttime event on mid-January

There will also be a preliminary competition in late year which amateurs, lower ranked pros, famous personalities and athletic celebrities can enter

It starts on early January and the successful competitors will go into the midweek 'grand finale' with the additional everyday players and top-ranked athletes

"Whether you're an amateur or a pro, the overall victor will receive the prize. Entries will start imminently at facilities across the country"

Competition planners mentioned there were "additional stars to be revealed shortly", while the event portal mentioned "famous personalities" would be taking part
