British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the pastel suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
His passing follows shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her US tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
