Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The reason behind the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

How It Happened

Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a building in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had been present for hours at the site managing the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.

"Authorities believe the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.

CCTV footage showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a security uniform firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have have information to contact them.

"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been following their trail to establish their location," added an official.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"Words fail me. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were willing to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."

She appealed to the public to not sharing disturbing footage from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that was broadcast on a popular local TV network.

In addition to his media career, Stock was active in various commercial activities, including private security, providing elite guarding services and protecting high-profile events across South Africa.

A cabinet official remarked he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.

A broadcasting director noted that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought excitement and dynamism to every performance. His artistic passion left an profound impact."

In a communication, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
