Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The reason behind the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

How It Happened

Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a building in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had been present for hours at the site managing the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.

"Authorities believe the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.

CCTV footage showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a security uniform firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have have information to contact them.

"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been following their trail to establish their location," added an official.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"Words fail me. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were willing to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."
