The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Each team has just eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
