The UK is prepared to move forward with employing the total value of immobilized Russian assets to aid Ukraine's war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a collective announcement, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They added that the decision would be implemented in strong partnership with the United States.

United Kingdom penalties have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russia's assets since the Russian government began its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, until now, funds sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian assets had only been drawn from gains and dividends accrued on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were united in their aim to drive progress toward utilizing the complete amount of the immobilized Russia's state holdings to halt hostilities.

He added that further restrictions in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on Moscow.

This statement comes after European Union leaders gathered in the Danish capital last week to discuss employing frozen Russian assets for a 140-billion-euro credit to Ukraine.

Last month, President Donald Trump encouraged international partners to take or employ frozen Russia's holdings, according to reports.

The worth of immobilized Russian funds in the European Union is estimated to be almost €211bn.
