US Armed Forces Conducts Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in Four Deaths
According to a high-ranking military official, the American armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”
Background and Recent Actions
This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to increase the military buildup.
Only on Tuesday, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amid Scrutiny
The government has encountered increasing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.
While the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to suggest a wider political aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's sitting leadership.
